Pam Hook, Dip. Tchg; MSc (Hons.)
Pam Hook is an educational consultant (www.hooked-on-thinking.com), and project director for two New Zealand MoE ICT_pd clusters. She is interested in curriculum alignment and the development and assessment of students’ thinking. She has a particular interest in e learning, and exploring pedagogies where the involvement of ICT might improve student learning outcomes. Pam is involved in staff development in teaching and learning in New Zealand schools and has presented on thinking and ICT at national and international conferences.

Desirable, achievable and sustainable professional learning experiences
Hooked on Thinking courses reflect current educative initiatives and research. Course design responds to the specific needs of schools and organisations, Early childhood through to tertiary level courses can be adapted to cover a two hour, full day, or year long professional learning programme. In addition, Hooked on Thinking can organise conferences for individual schools or clusters of schools.

Landscapes for Thinking through ICT

"Does the use of ICT lead to better learning outcomes for students?" Perhaps if we understood how sheep bladders might be employed to prevent earthquakes we would find this easier to answer. How do we know anything? Using ICT and preventing earthquake, and land-shake, preventing earth-quiver and land -shiver requires us to establish contrast and affinity, to explore landscapes for thinking. Ken Ryba pointed out, as long ago as 1987 that the question we ought to be asking is "What are the conditions required for ICT to be of value in the teaching and learning process?"
Participants will explore conditional landscapes for "thinking through ICT", framed around the Best Evidence Synthesis (Alton-Lee 2003). Unpacking the landscapes required for "thinking through ICT" to be of value in the teaching and learning process.

Workshop participants will explore different questioning frameworks and the practical strategies that will promote deeper thinking and improve learning outcomes for their students.

Workshop participants will explore all of these questions and more, gaining an insight into the ascending levels of student thinking. They will leave with practical strategies for enhance their planning, teaching and thinking interventions to improve student learning outcomes.
This workshop is offered with a primary and/ or secondary focus. Secondary workshops are linked to the ascending thinking complexity in NCEA.

Design Your Own Professional Learning Experience
Select from a range of options to customise a flexible and unique learning experience for your organisation.
The Question. Undermine shallow thinking and create a learning community of deep thinkers through a focus on questioning. Explore: Questions, questioning, questioners; What is a question? ; Developing frameworks for questioning; Ignorance Questions; Fertile Questions; Assessing Questions.
Critical Thinking and ICT. How well can individuals and teams in your organisation communicate, observe, inform and argue? How skilled is your organisation in interpretation and evaluation? If you need to produce well organised arguments, make better decisions, communicate more clearly and resolve disagreements with well structured reasons, then you need to learn how to think critically. This workshop will explore how learning through ICT's can build individuals and organisations with strong critical reasoning and argument skills.
Creative Thinking and ICT. Explore the difference between potential and achievement, and the implications for your school, staff and teaching practice. Develop a set of characteristics that reflect your communities' definition and approach to giftedness and talent.
How do you Identify Gifted and Talented Students? How to cast a wide net. How do you identify the disenchanted, disengaged and underground gifted student? A close look at the behaviours and characteristics that help identify giftedness, and the identification strategies available.
